Event RECAP

The impact of knives, on Lives

On Saturday, December 30th, Project GRAE hosted an impactful online event dedicated to addressing the devastating effects of knife crime on young people. We were honored to have a diverse panel of speakers, including Fidel Bonnah (Founder), Ife Thompson (Criminal Barrister), Ashitey Ollenu (Criminal Barrister), Hayleigh Senior (Campaigner), and Fernitta Mensa (Psychologist, NHS), who shared their insights and experiences.

The event created a safe space for open discussions, allowing attendees to share personal stories and voice their concerns. A recurring theme was the sense of fear and the perceived need for protection that drives some young people to carry knives. Many expressed that they carry knives not with the intent to harm but to feel secure, especially in safeguarding their vulnerable family members.

Highlights from the event included:

  • Inspiring Talks: Our speakers provided valuable perspectives on the legal, psychological, and social aspects of knife crime, emphasizing the importance of community support and proactive measures.
  • Open Discussions: Participants engaged in heartfelt conversations about the impact of knife violence on their lives and the broader community.
  • Resource Sharing: We provided resources and information on how to prevent knife-related incidents and promote safer environments.

Project GRAE remains committed to spreading awareness about the consequences of knife violence and fostering a united front against it. Together, we can make a difference and promote peace in our communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversation. Let’s continue to stand together and say NO to knife crime!
